Police suspect the victim's claim that he was robbed of Rs. 3.5 lakh
BANGALORE: Three armed men attacked a financier with choppers and robbed him of Rs. 3.50 lakh in cash in Girinagar police station limits on Wednesday afternoon.
The police said that around 12.30 p.m., Venkatesh and his friend Rajesh, who were returning on a motorcycle, collected Rs. 8,000 from the owner of a bar and restaurant at Muneshwara Block on 50 Feet Road.
Three men attacked Mr. Venkatesh (43) with choppers in front of the bar, injuring him on the hands and abdomen. Mr. Venkatesh was admitted to a private hospital on 50 Feet Road and he is out of danger.
While Mr. Venkatesh claimed that he was robbed of Rs. 3.50 lakh in cash, the police suspect his claim. A senior police official told The Hindu that Mr. Venkatesh was in debts and he could not have possessed Rs. 3 lakh.
According to the police, Mr. Venkatesh, a native of Hassan, lives with his wife at his father-in-law's house in Basaveshwaranagar here. But Mr. Venkatesh allegedly had an affair with a woman in Girinagar area and the police do not rule out the possibility of this being the cause of the attack.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Alok Kumar, who visited the scene of crime, said the eye witness to the incident as well as those known to Venkatesh were not forth coming with details. The Girinagar police have registered a case.
