Senior Yakshagana artiste Ramachandra Hegde Kondadakuli will be felicitated on Sunday in recognition of his contribution to the art form. It will also mark his completion of 50 years in the field.

The programme, ‘Yakshachandrana Chinnada Sambrama 50’, organised by Yakshagana art lovers and fans of Mr. Kondadakuli, is at ADA Ranga Mandira on J.C. Road here.

Yakshagana singers’ troupe led by Nebburu Narayana Bhagavat will perform ‘Himmela Vaibhava’ on the occasion and a Yakshagana performance, ‘Satyavan Savitri’, in which Mr. Kondadakuli will play the character of Yama, too has been organised.

Manjunath Hegde, organising committee member, said Mr. Kondadakuli was an exponent of the Badagutittu form of Yakshagana art.

He started performing at the age of 12 and gave life to hundreds of mythological characters, including female ones.

“Mr. Kondadakuli is one of those rare artistes who touched the hearts of viewers through mastering all the aspects of the art form. Through his own troupe, Poonachandra Yakshakala Pratishtana, Kondadakuli, Kumbashi, he presented a number of Yakshagana Prasangas in the country and abroad,” he said.
