KOLAR: The amendments to Agricultural Produce Marketing Committee(APMC) Act will spell doom for both farmers and peasants of the State as it would allow entry of big foreign companies in the Indian agricultural market, Karnataka Prantha Raitha Sangha (KPRS) Kolar district unit general secretary P.R. Sooryanarayan has said.

He was addressing a gathering of farmers who staged a dharna in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s office here on Friday opposing the amendments to the Act.

The Government’s move will adversely affect the food security of the country and it will spur the suicides of peasants, Mr. Sooryanarayan said.

While declaring support to APMC traders, he said that farmers will be forced to wage struggles demanding the withdrawal of amendments.
