While some farmers from Yellur and adjoining villages are opposing the construction of a road from Yarmal to Yellur in Belgaum taluk, several others are in favour of it.

On Tuesday, a group of farmers marched to the Deputy Commissioner’s office and submitted a memorandum demanding construction of the road.

A few farmers stopped roadworks on December 31 stating that the Yellur Gram Panchayat had taken up construction work without informing them. They said that the panchayat had not consulted them or offered to pay compensation for the loss of land. However, the farmers who staged a demonstration here on Tuesday emphasised the need for a permanent road to transport their produce to markets. The road would benefit farmers from Yellur, Yarmal, Dhamne (S), Peeranwadi, Machche, Hunchanatti, Masgoudangatti, Kurubarahatti, Devgoudanatti, Khadarwadi, Mazgaon, Zhadshahpur, Avacharatti, Balgamatti and Angol, they said.
