Farmers from various districts of north Karnataka will congregate at Naragund on July 21 to observe ‘Farmer Martyrs’ Day’ in memory of farmers who lost their lives during the ‘Raitha Bandaya’ (farmers revolt) in 1980.

Farmers’ leader Kodihalli Chandrashekar told presspersons here on Thursday that farmers would pay homage to those who died during the revolt in Navalgund and Naragund. Mr. Chandrashekhar said that over 5,000 farmers from various parts of north Karnataka would visit the memorial built at Navalgund to pay tribute to the martyrs. It would be followed by a convention of farmers in Naragund. The convention would discuss the delays in the implementation of the Kalasa Banduri Nala Project, Mr. Chandrashekar added.

Veteran farmers’ leader from Tamil Nadu Shiva Swamy would speak on the occasion.
