Members of houseless families taking out a procession opposing the alleged lapse of Union government funds granted for housing schemes in Dharwad on Tuesday.

Families without houses staged a protest here on Tuesday, condemning the alleged lapse of funds of Rs. 250 crore meant for housing schemes.

Led by Karnataka Rakshana Sene, the protesters took out a rally and submitted a memorandum addressed to the Mayor and the Hubli-Dharwad Municipal Commissioner, Y.S. Patil.

The memorandum said that Rs. 250 crore granted by Centre for the Namma Mane housing scheme for economically weaker sections had lapsed.

They blamed the lackadaisical attitude of the HDMC officials for this.

Stressing the difficulty in finding affordable housing in the twin cities, they added that housing schemes such as Ashraya and Ambedkar Awas Yojana had made no progress over the last five years.

The protesters demanded that housing schemes be implemented and houses distributed to those eligible in Dharwad.
