An alarm clock was found ticking inside a trunk in the parcel room
MYSORE: A `false alarm' sent the Mysore railway station authorities, the police and the media into a tizzy on Tuesday.
It was late in the evening that a trunk was brought to the parcel room for transportation to Aligarh in Uttar Pradesh by Swarnajayanthi Express, which is scheduled to leave the city on Wednesday.
A clicking sound from within the trunk sparked suspicion among the officials, who immediately alerted the Mysore City Police. But even before the police could reach with a bomb disposal squad, an alarm went off in the trunk. And the officials buried it in a nearby sand dune.
Even as the bomb disposal squad got down to work, the railway authorities tried to trace the addressee in Aligarh.
Their suspicion grew when they found that the address does not exist.
Entry into the railway station was barred for the public and a portion of the railway station, where the trunk was buried in a sand dune, cordoned off.
The bomb disposal squad broke open the trunk to find household articles and kitchen items in it.
There was an alarm clock too inside, which went off at 9 p.m.
The person who booked the parcel has been located.
