Members of the Dharwad district committee of the Karnataka Rajya Dalit Sangharsha Samiti (DSS) staged a demonstration here on Saturday demanding action against those responsible for giving admission to government industrial training institutes (ITIs) based on “fake” marks cards.
District convener of the samiti Maruti Doddamani alleged that despite providing “documentary evidence” against those involved in the “racket”, the police were yet to take action against them.
Mr. Doddamani alleged that the principal of the Government ITI, which is the nodal centre for ITI admissions in the district, did not check if the marks cards were genuine before providing admission to candidates. He alleged that no steps were taken to check the veracity of provisional marks cards and other documents even after doubts were raised by staff members of the Government ITI.
The protesters said that despite several complaints about irregularities in the Government ITI in Hubli, no action had been taken against the authorities concerned.
The protesters later submitted a memorandum to the tahsildar and said that they would intensify their agitation if no steps were taken to protect the interests of poor meritorious students.
