Eye surgery, including cataract, was performed on as many as 396 persons at the 27th annual free eye camp organised at the Ashwini Hospital in Madikeri on Monday.

Patients included in the age group of 24 to 90. Patients had come from all over Kodagu, Mysore and Hassan districts. A total of 3,387 patients were examined for various eye ailments and 396 of them underwent surgeries.

Patients included 18 members from the Scheduled Tribes, three couple apart from a few disabled persons. As many as 378 patients were operated for cataract and the rest for other ailments, Kulkarni, a doctor from the Ashwini Hospital who was in-charge of the camp, said.

Women patients outnumbered men.

Patients with eye problems from Periyapatna in Mysore district at the camp topped the taluk-wise chart.
