DAVANGERE: Farmers of Davangere district have demanded that the Centre extend the procurement period of maize by one more month as more than half of the total crop produced this year in the district has not yet been bought. They threatened to leave their crop in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s office on April 1 if the Government failed to extend the procurement period. They appealed to the Election Commission to ensure that the model code of conduct did not prevent the Government from taking crucial decisions like this as welfare of farmers was to be kept in mind.
