The city police on Tuesday arrested the former BBMP councillor of Srirampura ward V. Nagaraja alias Bomb Naga under the stringent Goonda Act.

Based on the report filed by the west division police, City Police Commissioner Jyotiprakash Mirji directed the jurisdictional police to book him under the Goonda Act.

A resident of Sriramapura , Naga entered politics and had become councillor a decade ago as an independent candidate. Later, he identified himself with several parties for a while. According to the police, Naga who lost the previous BBMP election, continued his nefarious activities and patronising habitual offenders around the area.

Naga was arrested by Srirampura police on Tuesday. His supporters staged huge protest in front of the police station demanding his release. Police resorted to mild lathi-charge to disperse the mob.

He was booked under provisions of the Karnataka Prevention of Dangerous Activities of Bootleggers, Drug Offenders, Gamblers, Goondas, Immoral Traffic Offenders and Slum Grabbers Act, 1985, popularly known as Goonda Act.
