National-level management festival ‘Aavishkar 2013’ begins

“The first question you must ask yourself is ‘do you know yourself’. If you know yourself, then it’s a lot easier to face challenges. Every challenge gives you an opportunity to explore and manage yourself. And exploring makes you stronger, mentally and emotionally,” said Siddharth Jayakumar, Associate Manager, IndusInd Bank, here on Saturday.

Mr. Jayakumar, who has cerebral palsy, was delivering the keynote address after inaugurating ‘Aavishkar 2013’, national-level management festival organised by KLE Society’s College of Business Administration.

“Unless you know how to manage yourself, how are you going to manage others,” Mr. Siddharth said asked the students.

“The biggest challenge before me was to understand myself before I ventured to understand others,” he said.

Saying that each individual was different, Mr. Siddharth said one should learn to understand the differences. The biggest challenge was to beat one’s limitations, and for that to happen one had to compete with themselves, he said.

He said that getting an MBA did not make anyone a good manager.

Sharing from his life experiences, he asked the students not to let down people who supported them.

Mr. Siddharth asked the students to grab the first opportunity that came their way. “There is no second chance,” he said.

Mr. Siddharth said: “Motivation lies within you. It’s you who has to motivate yourselves.”

In the interaction that followed, Mr. Siddharth took questions and said that he was inspired by various people at different points of time.

Chairman of the local governing body of the college Anil Patted presided over the inaugural session.

Principal Anand M. Waddin welcomed the gathering. Students from 25 B Schools and 12 PU colleges are participating in the two-day event.
