A symposium and various cultural programmes will be held at Kuvempu Rangamandir here on September 10 to mark the 82nd birthday of Speaker of State Legislative Assembly Kagodu Thimmappa. The programme will commence at 10 a.m. Jnanapeetha awardee writer Chandrashekhara Kambara will inaugurate the programme. M. Chandra Poojary, serving as a professor at Karnataka Janapada University will deliver a talk on ‘socialism and development’ on the occasion. Pandavapura MLA and senior leader of Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha K.S. Puttannaiah, Minister of State for Primary and Secondary Education Kimmane Rathnakar will take part in the programme, N. Ramesh, president of Kagodu Thimmappa Abhimani Vrunda, an association of the followers of Mr. Thimmappa said in a press release.

Kagodu Thimmappa Abhimani Vrunda has instituted an award in the name of the veteran leader that will be conferred every year to progressive writers and social activists. Dr. Kambara will honour writer Hasan Nayim Surakoda with Kagodu Thimmappa award of the year 2013 on the occasion.
