Chief Executive Officer of the zilla panchayat Sanjay Bijur has directed the executive officer of the Shikaripur Taluk Panchayat to register criminal cases against those responsible for misappropriation of funds in Esur Gram Panchayat in 2005-06 and 2007-08.

The audit report of the zilla panchayat had mentioned misuse of Rs. 1,24,484 in 2005-06 and Rs. 4,36,500 in 2006-07 in Esur Gram Panchayat.

The audit report for 2005-06 objected to diversion of grants of the gram panchayat for personal use, failure to maintain list of the beneficiaries to whom Rs. 55,200 was distributed under the Total Sanitation Campaign, and distribution of daily wages without getting sanction for the posts.

The audit report for 2006-07 stated that foodgrains released under Suvarna Jala Samrakshana Yojane had been misused. The executive officer of the Shikaripur Taluk Panchayat had issued several notices to those who were working as members and secretaries of the gram panchayat then, for recovery of the fund that was misused.

The issue was debated at the zilla panchayat meeting also. Member Esur Basavaraj had urged the zilla panchayat to recover the fund at the earliest, following which the Chief Executive Officer issued the directive to the executive officer of the Shikaripur Taluk Panchayat.

Executive officer of the Shikaripur Taluk Panchayat Chandrashekhar said that he had received the directive from the Chief Executive Officer to recover the fund. The process of recovery would commence shortly, he said.
