The BJP State unit president K.S. Eshwarappa on Monday visited the former Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa at the Parappana Agrahara prison here.

During the meeting, the leaders are learnt have discussed the issue of the former Minister B. Sriramulu still keeping the party on tenterhooks on whether he would contest the bypoll from the Bellary Rural Assembly constituency on the BJP ticket or as an Independent.

It was also a political-cum-courtesy visit, sources said.

Pointing out that the High Court was likely to pronounce its verdict on Mr. Yeddyurappa's bail plea on Tuesday, the sources said that Mr. Eshwarappa wanted to meet Mr. Yeddyurappa before that as he had desisted from calling on the former Chief Minister after he had been remanded in judicial custody.

Interestingly, Mr. Eshwarappa is learnt to have held consultations with RSS leaders along with Chief Minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda before visiting the prison. He also reportedly briefed the RSS leaders after meeting Mr. Yeddyurappa.

The BJP is learnt to have taken a stand that it must field its candidate for the byelection even if Mr. Sriramulu decides not to contest on the BJP ticket.

“We have a Plan B for Bellary Rural seat bypoll. But we do not want to jump the gun, and will patiently wait for the decision from Mr. Sriramulu. We have told him to convey his decision to us by Tuesday night,” BJP sources said.
