State president of the Bharatiya Janata Party K.S. Eshwarappa has expressed the confidence that the Supreme Court will protect the interests of Karnataka farmers over the Cauvery river water sharing dispute.

“The Supreme Court will hear the interim application filed by the State government seeking a stay on the decision of the Cauvery River Authority (CRA) on October 8. I am confident that farmers of Karnataka will get justice by the Supreme Court,” he said after inaugurating the executive committee meeting of the BJP Yuva Morcha here on Sunday.

He said the executive committee meeting of the BJP State unit would be held in Bangalore on October 9 to discuss the future course of action concerning the Cauvery dispute. He justified the release of water to Tamil Nadu from September 12 to 19 as a goodwill gesture. The decision was taken to honour the Supreme Court and the CRA orders, he said.
