Raghunath Malkapure, MLC and BJP State unit general secretary, has urged party workers to be united and work for its victory in the urban local body polls.

He was addressing a meeting of party candidates here on Wednesday. Shivaraj Gandage, district unit president, announced that the party had decided to welcome Ravi Swamy, City Municipal Council member and the former BJP city unit president, back to the party. Mr. Swamy was suspended after he was accused of murdering Rohan Patil, a city unit president of the party, last year. He and six other accused in the case obtained anticipatory bail. Mr. Swamy claimed he was victim of a conspiracy hatched by his political opponents.

Leaders such as Ramesh Kumar Pande, Baburao Madakatti, Revanasiddappa Jalade, Kushal Patil Gadagi, Mahesh Palam, Bhagawant Khuba, Shivputra Vaidya, Ashok Hokrane, Hanumant Bulla, Raju Biradar and Jaykumar Kange were present.
