Deputy Commissioner D.K. Rangaswamy has reiterated that the model code of conduct would be strictly enforced in the forthcoming by-election in the Udupi-Chikmagalur Lok Sabha constituency.

Addressing a meeting of tahsildars and other polling officials here on Saturday, Mr. Rangaswamy directed them to participate actively in the election process.

He warned that he would not tolerate any lapses. Stating that vehicles provided to presidents of local bodies would be withdrawn, he said the inspection bungalow was out of bounds to leaders of political parties.

Instructing officials to ensure that buntings, banners, and flags in public places were removed, he said action would be taken against those who stick election posters without permission.

He said steps should be taken immediately for preparation of polling booths and electronic voting machines and appointment of polling officers and sector officers. The election commission would be deputing four observers to the constituency, he added.

He said a meeting of poll officials would be held in Udupi on February 21 to review the preparations made to conduct the elections.

Additional Deputy Commissioner K.P. Honakeri and Assistant Commissioner Prashanth were present.
