Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer and SVEEP Committee president N. Manjushri has said that different programmes including street plays, drawing and essay competitions and seminars have been organised in different colleges of the district to encourage youth to take active part in the elections.

Speaking at a meeting of SVEEP committee held at zilla panchayat auditorium here on Friday, she said that out of 1, 425 polling stations in six assembly segments of the district, a total of 425 polling stations have registered less than 35 per cent of polling.

In 2009 Lok Sabha elections less than 35 per cent polling has been registered in 456 polling stations.

In the upcoming elections, the Election Commission has included a new option for rejecting all the contestants by pressing NOTA to provide an opportunity for the voters to express their dissatisfaction over all the contestants.

So the voters should take active part in the polling activities.

“The officers concerned should encourage voters to come out and exercise their franchise,” she said.
