Parents exerting excessive pressure on children in the name of education is a major reason for growing cases of psychological disorders among children, according to eminent psychologist Anand Pandurangi.

Speaking at the fifth anniversary of the Rotson Garden Apartment Association here recently, Dr. Pandurangi said that in the name of education, children were being subjected to mental torture. “It’s the responsibility of parents to allow their wards enjoy their joyous days of childhood,” he said.

In the era of competition, parents were exerting tremendous pressure on children to excel in their examinations. “This is directly creating mental stress on children and they are becoming mentally and physically weak. Parents should create a healthy cultural environment at home and ask them to participate in extracurricular activities and cultural programmes, which gives them joy,” he said.

Earlier, inaugurating the programme, Additional Deputy Commissioner Mahantesh Bilagi stated that the joint-family concept was reflecting in the apartments. It’s a matter of pride that people were staying in harmony and conducting cultural programmes, he added.

Apartment designer Pradeep Raikar was felicitated. He said that in the coming days the facilities would be enhanced. Association President N.C. Patil also spoke. Artist Mahadev Sattigeri conducted ‘Nage Habba’. Cultural programmes were presented by children.
