PANAJI: To support the campaign for a Western Ghats Conservation Authority, SPACE (Society for Promoting the Arts, Culture and Education) will present here “For Mother Earth”, a dramatic enactment of four poems (villanelles) on environment.
The poems are written especially for this production by Uma Narayan of the Chair of Philosophy, Vassar College, New York, U.S. They are being performed by Theatre Ensemble, and directed by Hartman de Souza, a former grant-holder of the Ford Foundation.
The movement to save the Western Ghats, one of the 34 bio-diversity hotspots and a region that is under UNESCO’s active consideration to be declared World Heritage Site, is through an environmental petition that seeks to gather the support of 10 million people through a signature campaign.
SPACE was founded to encourage and promote creative and performing arts to heighten awareness of artistic, social and environmental issues, and also further the true spirit of culture, education and learning, said a release issued by the organisers here on Thursday.
