In all, 38 members have been elected to the 62-member executive committee of Dakshina Kannada unit of Karnataka State Government Employees Association in an election conducted on Monday. Of them, 36 members were elected unanimously and two were elected through election. Employees of 11 departments did not participate in the election.

Bank job vacancies

Institute of Banking Personnel Selection has invited applications to fill up vacant posts of probationary officers and management trainees. Last date to apply is August 12. Applications should be submitted online by logging on tohttp://ibps.in. There will be a written test and interview.

School admissions

A few seats reserved for Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe category students from class III to class V for 2013-14 are vacant at the Kendriya Vidyalaya No. 2 at Yekkur here. Parents may contact the principal for admission on or before July 31.

Power shutdown

There will be no power supply to some areas in the city on July 25 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The areas are Naguri, Garodi, Kankanady, Pumpwell and Netravathi layout. The cut is to facilitate maintenance works at 11 Kv Pumpwell power feeder.

Naming city airport

The Dakshina Kannada unit of Dalit Sangarsha Samithi (B. Krishnappa faction) has urged the government to name Mangalore International Airport after B.R. Ambedkar. In a release, its district convener said that among the families who lost their land for the airport were many Dalit families from Adyapady, Kolambe and Malavoor villages. Hence it should be named after Ambedkar.
