The herd of elephants that entered the Karnataka forest area through Bangarpet a few days ago surfaced again on Wednesday night in the Yergol forest area.

The elephants, believed to number two dozen, entered the State through the elephant corridor.

Though some crops have been damaged, no harm has been done to humans, range forest officer Chandrashekhar Reddy told The Hindu .

Forest Department personnel are supervising the movements of the herd and village residents have been asked not to provoke the animals. They have been advised to spread chilli powder in the fields to keep the pachyderms away, Mr. Reddy said.
