SHIMOGA: Film actor Shruti Mahendra said here on Saturday that women who played a crucial role in the development of society should elect a government that is people friendly.
Inaugurating the BJP Rural Women’s Conference, she said that women had made significant contribution in installing the BJP Government in the State.
She said that Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa had launched several schemes aimed at overall development of women.
Ms. Mahendra said that if popular programmes launched by the State Government for the development of women were to be implemented at the national level, BJP-led government should be installed at the Centre.
She asked women to support BJP candidate for Shimoga constituency B.Y. Raghavendra.
State Secretary of the BJP Mahila Morcha Sulochana Bhat, who was the chief guest, said that schemes introduced by Yeddyurappa Government such as Bhagyalakshmi, distribution of free bicycles to schoolchildren, enhancement of pension for women and hike in honorarium of anganwadi workers, were being lauded by every one.
Those who addressed the gathering include Mr. Raghavendra, Minister for Energy K.S. Eshswarappa, former Shimoga MP Ayanur Manjunath, MLA K.G. Kumaraswamy, president of the district BJP unit Girish Patel and president of the district BJP Mahila Morcha Suvarna Shankar.
President of the BJP’s Rural Mahila Morcha Gouramma presided over the conference.
