Bangalore: The Kumaraswamy Layout police arrested eight persons here on Sunday and recovered gold coins and gold-plated copper coins and ornaments from them.

According to the police, the accused were arrested while they trying pass off the gold-plated copper ornaments as pure gold ornaments.

The gang had been operating in the city since past several months and had allegedly duped a large number of people, especially young professionals and housewives, the police said.

The police gave the names of the arrested as N. Devaraju (34) of Premnagar near Laggere, S. Jagadeesh (38) of Ashoknagar near Peenya second stage, A. Shankarappa (52) of Palegere in Bangalore Rural district, K. Rajappa (30) of Pattandur Agrahara, V. Kumar (40) of Marenahalli near Vijaynagar, S. Madhu (26) of Channasandra near Whitefield, N. Nagesh (29) of Kallukunte village in Hoskote and M. Kempegowda (40) of Kuloor near Whitefield.

“The modus operandi of the gang was to offer the pure gold ornaments to prospective buyers at a low price to ascertain the purity of the gold. The accused persons, after finalising the deal, would hand over the fake gold ornaments to victims,” he said.

The police have recovered some gold ornaments and a large number of fake gold ornaments, including coins, chains, rings, bangles and necklaces and a car from the accused.


A gang of four armed men allegedly attacked a software engineer and robbed him of his mobile phone, wrist watch and a wallet near Pandu Nagar on Bannerghatta Road here on Monday night.

According to the police, the accused stabbed the victim before fleeing from the scene. The victim, Shimakshu Saksena, a resident of Arakere Gate has filed a case of robbery and assault with the J.P. Nagar police.


Nijama (35), a carpenter, drowned in the Thanisandra lake in Sampigehalli police station limits here on Sunday.

According to the Sampigehalli police, the victim, a resident of Bhovipura, had gone along with his friends to the lake for a swim.
