The Siddhi community, which has been exploited for centuries, should be provided education and infrastructure, said J.S. Patil Vice-Chancellor of Karnataka State Law University.

He was addressing the concluding ceremony of the national-level seminar on “Human Rights of the Scheduled Tribes Women in Western Ghats” in Bangur Nagar College in Dandeli on Monday. He said the Siddhi, Kunabi and the Gowli tribes found in the Western Ghat region had their own history, culture.

But their tradition was slowly disappearing because of the onslaught of the modernisation.

The Government should take steps to preserve their culture, Mr. Patil said.
