HUBLI: Members of Hubli Ankola Railway Struggle Action Committee staged a protest in front of the office of the General Manager of South Western Railway here on Wednesday demanding early implementation of the Hubli-Ankola railway line project.

The members of the committee, which based in Ankola in Uttara Kannada district, held a protest meeting in Ankola on Wednesday and planted saplings on the premises of the Satyagraha Memorial Hall before leaving for Hubli.

After reaching Hubli, they took out a protest march and staged a demonstration seeking early implementation of the project. They then submitted a memorandum addressed to Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee to the SWR General Manager Kuldeep Chaturvedi.

In the memorandum, they urged the Minister to take steps to clear hurdles for implementing the project and also allocate funds for it.

The Hubli-Ankola railway line project is hanging fire because it is yet get clearance from the Ministry of Environment and Forests.
