Memorandum demands immediate arrest of those involved in farmer’s death in Alahal village

GULBARGA: The Dalit Sangharsh Samiti (DSS-Sagar) on Wednesday sought adequate protection to Dalits in the State in view of the increasing attacks on them after the Janata Dal(S)-Bharatiya Janata Party Government assumed power.

DSS workers, led by its State convenor D.G. Sagar and other leaders, who took out a procession, staged a protest demonstration in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s office here.

They cited several instances of such attacks in various parts of the State and demanded that the Dalits’ civil rights be protected.

Memorandum

In a memorandum, addressed to Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy and submitted to the Deputy Commissioner, the DSS demanded that those who were involved in the death of a Dalit farmer in Alahal village in Surpur taluk in Gulbarga district be arrested immediately.

The farmer was found dead in an agriculture field.

The Government should act immediately and arrest those involved in the attempt on the life of Dalit leader Channabasava in Munir Bhimanalli, the DSS said. The memorandum also demanded that the Government increase scholarship given to Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe students.

It said that the Government should follow the Andhra Pradesh pattern of uniform scholarship for day scholars and those living in hostels.
