Chief Executive Officer of the zilla panchayat Pallavi Akurathi said here Thursday that an intensive drive called ‘Systematic Voters Education and Electoral Participation’ (SVEEP) would be launched in the district to ensure all voters get enrolled in the electoral rolls and that they exercise their franchise in the Assembly elections.
Ms. Akurathi, who is the chairperson of the 13-member committee to oversee the implementation of the programme, was speaking at a preliminary meeting of SVEEP launched by the Chief Electoral Officer of the State.
She said anganwadi workers had been instructed to conduct jathas in villages to create awareness among people on the right to vote. Mahila Mandals and Stree Shakti groups would also hold campaigns, she said.
Ms. Akurathi said ASHA workers would hold door-to-door campaigns to help people enrol their names on the voters list.
Officials of the Social Welfare Department and Backward Class and Minorities Department would take up a drive in hostels run by them to create awareness on need to vote. She urged the city corporation and urban local bodies to take up an intensive drive to enrol eligible voters and to ensure that the polling percentage is high.
