PANAJI: Faced with growing public resentment in different parts of the State against pollution caused by unregulated industrial units, the Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB) has launched a drive against such units.

The board decided to close down 20 units last week in addition to the three closed down at Cuncolim in south Goa some time ago. The drive comes in the wake of an agitation against some sponge iron units. Chairman of the board L.U. Joshi said the board had decided to issue notices asking the units operating without permission to apply for the same within a month, failing which they would be closed down.
