‘Raid establishments employing children’

Bijapur: The in-charge Deputy Commissioner, S.M. Sonnad, has directed the officials concerned to launch a drive against child labour in the district.

He has asked them to raid hotels, industries and business establishments employing children.

Presiding over a meeting of the National Child Labour Planning Committee here, he appealed to the officers to take steps to rehabilitate the rescued children.

Cooperation

He sought the cooperation of police officers to curb the child labour menace in the district. Mr. Sonnad said that there were 39 schools in the district providing education to 1,900 such children.

The authorities of these schools should make proper use of funds provided to them to help the rescued children, he said.

Camps

The district health officer was instructed to conduct health check-up camps every month for such children.

As part of “Anti-child Labour Day to be observed on June 12, various competitions for children and awareness programmes would be held in each taluk by teams under the supervision of the respective tahsildars, he said.
