Theatre lovers in and around Bellary are in for a feast as three hilarious dramas will be staged from July 21 to 23, as part of a theatre festival ‘Rangamungaru’, organised by the local cultural organisation Rangathorana to mark the birth centenary of renowned humorist and writer Rayasam Bheemsena Rao, popularly known as ‘BeChi’.

The plays will be staged at Dr. Joladarashi Rangamandir here from 6.30 p.m. daily, according to Prabhudev Kappagal, secretary of Rangathorana.

Speaking to presspersons here on Thursday, Mr. Prabhudev said that in addition to plays, Ullhas Rayasam, grandson of late BeChi, who is also the director of the BeeChi Vidyakendra at Bangalore; Gangavathi Pranesh, humorist from Gangavathi; and Y.V. Gundurao, writer and humorist, would be speaking about the life and works of BeChibefore the commencement of play, each day.

On July 21, Uttara Bhoopa BeChi would be staged by Antaranga from Bangalore. On July 22, BeChi Hasya Lahari will be staged by T.B. Dam Kalasangha from Hospet.

Muddannana Promotion would be staged by Rangathorana on the concluding day.

Mr. Prabhudev expressed disappointment over the State government not organising the birth centenary of BeChi on a grand-scale, keeping in view the contribution of the renowned humorist, who had popularised Bellay, his native district, through his hilarious speeches and writings.
