Members of the district unit of the Karnataka Rakshana Vedike (Praveen Shetty faction), took out a procession and staged a dharna outside the Deputy Commissioner’s office here on Thursday in protest against the Supreme Court’s directive to release Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu.

The agitators criticised Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar for not resolving the issue quickly. The State government had failed to convince the court about the plight of the people, especially farmers, owing to scanty rainfall for two successive years. Although crops were withering in Tamil Nadu owing to lack of water, the condition in Karnataka was not different, they said. The agitators submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner.
