B.M. Sathish, Karnataka Janata Paksha candidate from Davangere South Assembly segment, ridiculed Congress candidate Shamanur Shivashankarappa’s efforts to secure votes based on his performance as president of the erstwhile Davangere City Municipal Council and MLA.

Addressing presspersons here on Wednesday, Mr. Sathish said if the people of Davangere South were unaware that he was the president of the municipality some 26 years ago, how would they remember what he had done.

He asked Mr. Shivashankarappa not to “hoodwink people”, and instead seek votes on his performance and achievements as an MLA in the past five years. He alleged that Mr. Shivashankarappa did not even attend the Bhadra Command Area Development Authority meetings in the last five years, and said this was proof of his “apathy towards farmers”.

Thousands of farmers depending on the Bhadra for water reside in Davangere South, and at least for their sake, Mr. Shivshankarappa should have attended the meetings and pleaded for release of more water, he claimed.
