Police Commissioner Raghavendra H. Auradhkar has appealed to motorists not to ride on footpaths. “The police will be very strict with motorists caught using footpaths,” he said.

The commissioner appealed to the BBMP to help make the Sugama Safewalk campaign a success. “Engineering, enforcement and awareness are key factors of the campaign. There are many speed breakers on main roads, which may be inconvenient. The BBMP must use technical experts for implementing modern methods for designing roads,” he said, adding that the police would also be talking to municipal councillors to sensitise them on the issue.
