Upa Lokayukta Subhash B. Adi has warned the Road Transport Officer of action if he fails to take steps to check movement of vehicles that do not have permit in the district.

At a meeting of district-level officers here on Sunday, Mr. Adi said if RTO officials continue to remain callous about taking action against the owners of vehicles that do not have permits, action would be initiated against them.

He said he had received over 500 complaints from the district pertaining to various departments. Most of them were about officials not responding to the problems and complaints of people. He said it was the responsibility of officials to ensure that welfare programmes reached beneficiaries. Mr. Adi told officials to attend to all complaints before his tour of the district in August. He told officials of the Food and Civil Supplies Department to stop charging Rs. 50 more for issuing biometric ration cards. He said he had received complaints that people were being charged Rs. 100 instead of Rs. 50 for each ration card.
