MYSORE: Cotton is the prime commercial crop of Mysore district and is grown in H.D. Kote, Hunsur, Nanjangud and Mysore taluks.
The Department of Agriculture has made arrangements for distributing popular varieties of cotton seeds such as DCH-22 and Varalakshmi to farmers at 50 per cent discount. To ensure that farmers take up sowing on time during kharif season, the department started distribution of seeds this month itself. “The distribution of seeds is much earlier compared to the previous year,” said Joint Director of Agriculture Vishakanta. DCH 22 and Varalakshmi seeds were being distributed at raitha samparka kendras in H.D. Kote, Hunsur, Mysore and Nanjangud taluks. The grants for 2007-08 had been used to distribute seeds this year.
