Amlan Aditya Biswas, Deputy Commissioner and district Election Officer, on Thursday disqualified nine councillors — six from the Congress and three from the Janata Dal (Secular) — of the Siruguppa Town Municipal Council under the Anti-defection Law. The disqualified members are Asim, Rahamatullah, Ammajamma, M. Veeramma, B.E. Doddaiah and Parvathi from the Congress, and Danavendra, Salwad and Mudiyappa from the Janata Dal (S). They had violated the whip issued during the election of the president and vice-president in 2010. B.M. Manjula of the Congress, who had contested for the president’s post, and Gopali of the Janata Dal (S), who had contested for vice-president’s post, lodged a complaint against the nine councillors. — Staff Correspondent
