SHIMOGA: Minister for Energy K.S. Eshwarappa said here on Saturday it would be construed that the Congress approves of the “indecent” and “disparaging” remarks made by former Chief Minister S. Bangarappa against Shree Ramachandrapura Math and its seer Raghaveshwara Bharathi Swamiji if KPCC president R.V. Deshpande and its working president D.K. Shivakumar did not disown them openly.

Addressing a press conference, he expressed his anguish over the repeated remarks by Mr. Bangarappa against the math and its seer and said that it was a deliberate attempt to attack Hindu religious institutions.

Mr. Bangarappa is seeking Congress ticket to contest the Lok Sabha elections from Shimoga. He said that the Congress would have to share the blame if its leaders did not stop Mr. Bangarappa from making “irresponsible” and “disparaging” remarks against Hindu religious institutions.

If Mr. Bangarappa thought that he could derive electoral advantage by dividing voters as “backward” and “forward”, he was totally mistaken, Mr. Eshwarappa said.

He said that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was all set to highlight achievements of its government in the State, its organisational strength and its inspiring leadership during the election campaign.

Mr. Eshwarappa criticised Mr. Bangarappa for his “harsh” behaviour with mediapersons at a press conference here on Friday. He asked Congress leaders to clarify on the issue.
