‘Friday Balcao’, a two-week-long discussion event to be held on Friday, will focus on the challenges of consumer literacy faced by farmers in rural areas. On behalf of the organisers-Goa Desk-, Roland Martins said the discussion had been organised to observe the International Literacy Day .

What is the level of consumer awareness amongst farmers in rural areas? Do they use the Consumer Disputes Redressal system available when they have problems with the quality of seeds, fertilizers, and pesticides?

Are they aware of the after-sales services and warranty conditions that are applicable on pumps, power tillers, tractors, and harvesters being used by them? Are they provided adequate information on the various conditions applicable on loans, health, and crop insurance?

These are some of the questions that would be covered in the discussion, he said on Wednesday. The event will be held from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Goa Desc Resource Centre No.11 Liberty Apartments, Feira Alta, Mapusa and is open to public.
