Even after the announcement of giving the party ticket to actress Umashree to contest from Terdal Assembly constituency, the differences within the Congress have not ceased.

‘Outsider’

The tag of being an ‘outsider’ has again become a stumbling block for Umashree, who lost the 2008 Assembly elections for the same reason. She lost the election by a margin of 12,244 votes.

Despite belonging to the weavers community, who are dominant in Terdal, the actress has faced stiff resistance from several people in the past.

Rajashekhar Bidari, the brother of the former IPS officer Shankar Bidari, and Mahaveer Danagonda, an influential leader in Bagalkot, are spearheading this rebellion against Ms. Umashree.

They have been arguing that the Congress should give the party ticket to candidates who hail from Terdal.

While a section of the Congress leaders were busy opposing the candidature of Ms. Umashree, a cine star was spending time in Terdal to strengthen her base by visiting villages and meeting people. It is now to be seen how Ms. Umashree will fare in the elections, especially after the Congress performed well in the Terdal segment in the ULB elections.
