Manjula Mahantesh Munavalli (17), from Ramapur in Dharwad taluk has been invited to take part in the 66th pre-sessional working group on the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) to be held in Geneva, Switzerland on October 10.

Manjula, a first-year student at the RLS PU College here, has been invited by the Child Rights Connect, formerly the NGO group for the CRC.

Manjula has been associated with the Karnataka Integrated Development Society (KIDS), a non-governmental organisation (NGO) working for child welfare promotion in rural parts of the district. She is also the vice-president of the ‘Gubbacchi Goodu Makkala Mahasangha’, a confederation of children’s welfare associations.

“It is a privilege to represent India at the UNCRC,” she said, remarking that she would speak on issues like child marriage, human trafficking, child labour issues and recent sexual assaults on children in India during her presentation. Manjula’s father, Mahantesh, a small farmer, is thrilled at his daughter’s feat.
