BANGALORE: Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Assembly B.S. Yediyurappa on Saturday asked Chief Minister N. Dharam Singh to resign immediately and allow the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Janata Dal (S) to form a coalition government headed by H.D. Kumarawamy, Working President of the State unit of the JD(S).

Legislators of the BJP staged a dharna in front of the Raj Bhavan on Thursday demanding that the Governor insist on the resignation of Mr. Dharam Singh and allow Mr. Kumaraswamy to form a government as he commands a majority in the Legislative Assembly. Addressing presspersons here, Mr. Yediyurappa alleged that the Congress is indulging in political games to save the Dharam Singh Government. The BJP-Janata Dal (S) alliance will defeat political designs of the Congress in the Legislative Assembly on January 27, he said.

Mr. Yediyurappa said the BJP and the Janata Dal (S) demonstrated their strength before Governor T.N. Chaturvedi.
