K.S. Eshwarappa, BJP State unit president, has reiterated that the financial activities and development achievements of the State Government during the past four years would be the main issue while campaigning for the forthcoming by-election to the Lok Sabha from the Udupi-Chikmagalur consti tuency.

He told presspersons in Tarikere on Wednesday after campaigning in various parts of the taluk that his Government had earmarked Rs. 375 crore in the budget for the welfare of backward classes and minorities. He said importance had been given to irrigation, education, and development of roads.

Stating that Karnataka stood second in the country in the implementation of development works according to a report published by the Planning Commission, he said the State Government had the distinction of developing SC\ST colonies and concreting roads in the colonies.

Expressing confidence that the former Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa will win the legal battle he is facing, he said Mr. Yeddyurappa would campaign in the byelection.

He criticised the former Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy and External Affairs Minister S.M. Krishna for not emulating Mr. Yeddyurappa who resigned as soon as charges were levelled against him.

BJP candidate V. Sunil Kumar, Horticulture Minister Ravindranath, D.S. Suresh, and Y.C. Viswanath, MLAs, and Rajashekar, president of the Chikmagalur District Co-operative Central Bank, were present.
