The villagers had invited him to inaugurate the temple thrice earlier

HASSAN: Former Prime Minister and Hassan Lok Sabha member H.D. Deve Gowda inaugurated the Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy temple in Hassan district on Sunday. The dilapidated temple, built during the Chola period, was reconstructed at a cost of Rs. 11.5 lakh.

Later addressing a press conference at Doddakunche village in Holenarsipur taluk he said, the overall development of a village would become a reality only if the people living there worked in unison.

Mr. Gowda said the villagers invited him to inaugurate the temple thrice earlier but the programme was cancelled owing to his other engagements. "This time I did not want to disappoint them because it is Dharnada Karya (work of devotion). Despite illness, I made it for the inauguration," he said.

Mr. Gowda lauded the villagers for reconstructing the temple by collecting funds and foodgrains to provide food for visiting devotees.

Gram panchayat member Chandrasekhar informed the meeting that Mr. Gowda had released Rs. 4 lakh from the MP's Local Area Development Fund.

Apart from this Dharmadhikari of Dharmasthala Veerendra Heggade released Rs. 5 lakh and the villagers also contributed Rs. 2.5 lakh, he said.

A grand pooja was held at the temple premises on Sunday after a long gap.
