Janata Dal (Secular) chief H.D. Deve Gowda campaigned for party candidate D.C. Gowrishankar in Tumkur Rural constituency on Wednesday.

Addressing a large gathering at Hebbur in Tumkur district, Mr. Deve Gowda said that if the Janata Dal(S) comes to power in the State, then it will once again file a writ petition in the Supreme Court seeking review of the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal’s verdict on sharing the river waters between Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.

He alleged that the verdict had done injustice to Karnataka and hence, it was necessary to go to the Supreme Court seeking a review again.

He, however, said that there was no need for the Janata Dal(S) to use the Cauvery issue to woo the voters.

He alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Congress are making allegations against the Janata Dal(S) that it was using the Cauvery issue as a political strategy. He said that even leaders of the BJP and the Congress know that the verdict had gone against the interests of the State.

The former Minister C. Chennigappa and district president of the party M.R. Hulinayakar were present.
