SHIMOGA: Deputy Commissioner Pankaj Kumar Pandey has written to the authorities of the veterinary hospital to hand over the building to facilitate the City Municipal Council to undertake the commercial shopping complex project. Adding a fillip to this, Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa during a meeting on the ‘development of Shimoga city’ on Friday in Bangalore instructed the Deputy Commissioner to execute the demolition work The veterinary hospital, spread across two-acre land, was inaugurated by the then Dewan of Mysore S.P. Rajagopalachari, in 1936. According to sources, the veterinary hospital is likely to be shifted to the municipal land located at Vidyanagar on B.H. Road.
Several years ago, a lawyer by name Garudachar had donated the site for the construction of the veterinary hospital. But the site donated for hospital could be converted into a shopping complex or not, has become contentious. The family members of the donor said that the Government could have utilised the site for any other purpose if there were no restrictions laid down in the agreement deed. But, the agreement deed is ‘not available’.
