Member of the Hospet Railway Station Consultative Committee Y. Yamunesh, has expressed concern over the delay on the part of the Railways in completing the Hospet-Kottur-Harihar line in north Karnataka.

In a letter to Union Minister of State for Railways K.H. Muniyappa, Mr. Yamunesh said that the rail line, which was taken up in 1995, was yet to be completed.

Mr. Yamunesh said that the line, when completed, would prove connect 10 districts of northern Karnataka with Mangalore.

“This will help movement of steel, iron ore and agricultural produce on the one hand and ensure supply of coal, fertilizer and petrol in the other direction,” he said.

“The rail line will also give a boost to industrialisation in some of the most backward taluks of the district such as Kudligi, Sandur Bommanahalli and Hadagali,” Mr. Yamunesh said.

He urged the Minister to accord priority for speedy completion of the rail line during the meeting to discuss the railway projects in the State, scheduled for October 20 in Bangalore . Mr. Yamunesh appealed to the MPs and MLAs from north Karnataka to prevail upon the Minister to complete the project as soon as possible.
