A wild tusker, aged around 20, was found in a ditch near Kothanahalli in Omkar forest range limits in Gundlupet taluk on Monday. The animal, which had ventured out of the forest in search of water, had broken through a solar fence and fallen into the ditch. On being informed, Forest Department personnel arrived at the spot and the animal, which was dehydrated and injured, was treated.

Owing to severe drought, waterholes have dried up and wild elephants are increasingly entering human habitations in search of water.
