Deepavali turned tragic for the families of the three youths from the city who were killed in an accident at Dindigul when they were returning from Sabarimala.

The police identified the victims as Lokesh (27), Vinay (21) and Bharath (23).

Lokesh was the only son of Prakash, a resident of Mahalakshmi Layout, and was working in the call centre.

Vinay, a resident of K.P. Agrahara, was employed with Air India, and was visiting Sabarimala for the first time.

Bharath, resident of Prakash Nagar on Rajkumar Road, was working in a private company and was pursuing a MBA by correspondence.

As soon as the news of the accident reached the families of the three youths, they rushed to Dindigul on Monday morning.

“All our relatives were there when he left for the trip from the Aiyappa temple here on Thursday. He called us on Sunday night from Madurai and had spoken to his mother. He had told us that he would proceed to Salem before returning to the city later on Monday. But he was killed in such an unexpected manner,” Vinay’s father lamented.

The bodies are likely to arrive late Monday night after the post-mortem examination is completed.

Fourth victim

The driver of the vehicle also succumbed to injuries soon after the accident.
